❇️ داستانی کوتاه به نام: Fortune and the Beggar 💰 ❇️ توضیحی در مورد داستان مرد فقیری بود که کیسه ای قدیمی داشت و خانه به خانه می رفت تا پولی به او بدهند تا بتواند غذایی تهیه کند. او در مسیر خود به خانه ای رسید که صاحبش ثروتمند بود. کشتی های متعددی در دریا داشت و گاه بر اثر طوفان غرق می شدند و سرمایۀ او در کف دریا قرار می گرفت و از بین می رفت. مرد فقیر با خود گفت اگر من به جای او بودم بعد از مقداری پس انداز ما بقی عمر خودم را صرف لذت بردن از زندگی می کرد. در همین حال، یک نفر به سوی او آمد و گفت من «خوشبختی» هستم کیسه ات را باز کن تا آن پر از طلا کنم ولی بدان هر سکه که به زمین بیفتد تبدیل به خاک می شود و کاملا بی ارزش می گردد. مرد فقیر بسیار خوشحال شد و کیسۀ قدیمی اش را باز کرد و «خوشبختی» شروع کرد به ریختن طلاها در آن و دم به دم هشدار می داد که کیسه، توان تحمل این همه وزن را ندارد ولی مرد فقیر دم به دم تقاضا می کرد که بیشتر و بیشتر در آن طلا ریخته شود تا ناگهان کیسه پاره شد و تمامی سکه ها بر زمین ریخت و تبدیل به خاک شد. «خوشبختی» در آن لحظه ناپدید شد و مرد فقیر به خاطر حرصی که زده بود نه تنها دوباره هیچ نداشت بلکه کیسه اش نیز پاره شده بود. 💠-------------- ✴️ @English_4U #Listening

I like to watch car chases. I like it when the bad guy has a shootout with the good guys. I like the good guys to win. I also like science fiction movies. I like things that take place in the future. I like movies that have aliens from different planets in them. Some of the science fiction movies can be silly and unbelievable. I don't like those ones. My mother likes dramas. She has a lot of favorite actors and actresses. She sometimes watches sad movies that make her cry. She also likes comedies. She laughs out loud if a comedy is very funny. My father likes horror movies. He likes movies with monsters in them. He also likes thrillers. I have watched some thrillers that keep you tense and on the edge of your seat. Sometimes, I have to shut my eyes if the movie gets too scary. My brother likes animated films. In animated films, there are no actors, just cartoon characters. My brother goes to the movies on Saturday afternoons with his friends. He goes to the matinee. He gets popcorn, candy and pop. He usually comes back with a stomach ache because he eats so much. Sometimes, my father watches documentaries. Documentaries are about real things. You can learn a lot from watching a documentary. I watch documentaries with him sometimes, but I would rather see a good action film.

Todd: Talking about kids and school, what do you think about failure? Like it seems like we're moving to where we're not allowed to tell kids that they're not doing well, that everybody has to be a winner. You know, everybody gets a good grade. What do you think about that especially as a teacher and a parent?

Julia: As a teacher, I think, I read something recently that the chastising a student, telling them they did bad, has no motivational value whatsoever but praise does. So definitely I think it's important to always praise. If you have a really bad student and you can't find anything to praise them on then I don't know what the answer is really. But I'm sure you can always find something to praise someone on.

Todd: Yeah.

Julia: So I think it's important to focus on the positives all the time.

Todd: See actually I kind of disagree.

Julia: Do you?

Todd: Yeah. I think that, you know, that your score is or your progress is absolute. Like either you pass or you fail, either you get high marks or low marks but that's the motivation. Like if you get, if you don't do well, then you want to try harder. You know, like if you're a fat kid and you don't want to be fat then you, you know, you're motivated to lose weight or if you aren't a star in the baseball team you need to practice harder so you move up. But if you tell kids that they're doing great when actually they're not exceptional then maybe that actually does harm.

Julia: OK, well maybe I misexplained that. I don't mean give a false, I don't mean say they're doing well when they're not doing well but what I mean is focus more on the successes than the failures.

Todd: Oh, I see. Like confidence building?

Julia: Yeah, I guess that's what I mean more. But I guess we're talking about motivation rather than an end result like, of course, yeah, you're going to fail some things. I don't know. I never failed that many things at school and later on in life when I did encounter failure, I took it pretty bad so perhaps it would have been healthier for me to have failed a few things. I don't know.
