📣 Symbolic Withdrawal; Continued U.S. Presence in Iraq under a New Cover 🔸 On August 17, an advisor to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced that U.S. forces would withdraw from al-Asad Air Base and Baghdad International Airport in September 2025. A day later, the spokesperson of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad separately told Iraqi media that the mission of what is termed the “U.S.-led international coalition” would transition into a “more traditional bilateral security partnership” between the U.S. and Iraq. 🔸 These developments come after a long-awaited agreement reached in September 2024 between the Iraqi government and the U.S. government. Under that agreement, hundreds of coalition troops were to leave Iraq by September 2025, with the remaining forces to withdraw by the end of 2026. 🔸 Many experts and observers believe that the announcement of U.S. and coalition troop withdrawals from Baghdad and Anbar does not mean a genuine departure from Iraq, but rather the redeployment of forces within the country. Therefore, this process should not be seen as a real “withdrawal,” but as a repositioning within Iraq’s geography, with no indication of a complete exit from the country. __________________________________ 📣 Beyond Headlines , Inside Iran 🔗 IRAN TIMES | @JAARCHI_ENG
📣 Russia: Europeans Cannot Invoke the “Snapback” Mechanism Against Iran 🔸 Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative to international organizations, announced on social media platform X that the attempts by the United Kingdom, Germany, and France to use the so-called snapback mechanism under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 to reimpose economic sanctions on Iran face serious legal obstacles. 🔸 Ulyanov stressed that these three European countries themselves violated Resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and therefore, from a legal standpoint, they cannot make use of the snapback mechanism. 🔸 Citing the principle of “good faith” in international law and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice regarding South Africa’s presence in Namibia in 1970, he explained that a state that has violated its own obligations cannot benefit from the rights provided under an agreement. 🔸 In other words, due to the violations of the JCPOA by these three European states, their efforts to trigger the snapback mechanism are inconsistent with the fundamental principles of international law. __________________________________ 📣 Beyond Headlines , Inside Iran 🔗 IRAN TIMES | @JAARCHI_ENG
📣 Haaretz: Recognition of a Palestinian State May Be a Punishment for Netanyahu, but for Israel It Is a Great Gift The Israeli newspaper Haaretz, in an analysis regarding the recent policy of some Western countries—including France, the United Kingdom, and Canada—to recognize a Palestinian state within the framework of the “two-state solution,” wrote: 🔸 Some may perceive the recognition of a Palestinian state as a punishment against Israel, but this is not the case. The establishment of a Palestinian state is, above all, in Israel’s own interest. Because if a Palestinian state does not exist, there will be no way for Israel to remain as the homeland of the Jewish people. __________________________________ 📣 Beyond Headlines , Inside Iran 🔗 IRAN TIMES | @JAARCHI_ENG
