People are always afraid of the things they cannot understand; of a mind they cannot read, of a power they cannot control, and of someone who refuses to fit into the shape they were meant to occupy. But I was never made to be like everyone else; I have always known that being ordinary is simply the quietest form of being forgotten. Some people spend their entire lives trying to be loved, while others want to be feared; but I want something beyond both: for my name to remain in the minds of those who knew me, even after my voice can no longer be heard.
Power is not something that is given to you as a gift; it is something you must want so desperately that you can no longer imagine a life without it. I understood from childhood that people respect those whose loss they fear. That is why I never sought pity. Pity is a chain they fasten around your wrists with a smile. I would rather have my name remain in their minds not as someone they felt sorry for, but as someone they could never bring themselves to ignore.
Perhaps it sounds strange, but I have always been more fascinated by immortality than by life itself. Life is for those who fear the end; I have always wanted something that the end could never touch. A name, a secret, a trace left behind in history… something that would still exist even after the last light had gone out. If I am destined to be forgotten one day, then what meaning does this entire life have?
"how could sincerity be a condition of friendship? a liking for the truth at all costs is a passion that spares nothing and that nothing can withstand."
I have experimented; I have pushed the boundaries of magic further than they’ve ever been pushed.
