"خب، به نظر می رسد شما کسی را ندارید که برای شما آب بیاورد، چگونه اینقدر درمانده و بی کس شده اید؟" She replied: "My husband was a soldier; Ali sent him to the frontier where he was killed. Now I am alone with these small children." جواب داد: شوهرم سرباز بود، علی او را به مرزی که در آنجا کشته شد فرستاد، حالا من با این بچه های کوچک تنها هستم. Stranger said no more. Bowing down his head he went away. But the thought of the helpless widow and orphans remained in his mind. He could hardly sleep in the night. Immediately he grilled some meat, which he had brought and fed the children saying to each child while putting morsel in his mouth: "My son, forgive Ali if he has failed in his duty towards you." آن زن رفت آرد را خمیر کند. امام فوراً مقداری از گوشتی که آورده بود را کباب کرد و به بچه‌ها داد و در حالی که لقمه‌ای در دهان هر بچه می‌گذاشت به بچه‌ می‌گفت: پسرم، اگر علی در انجام وظیفه‌اش کوتاهی کرده او را ببخش. The flour got ready; she called: "Gentleman! Put fire in the oven." Stranger went and put fire in the oven. When flames rose up, he brought his face near the fire and said, "Taste the heat of fire. By chance, a woman from the neighboring house came in. Recognizing the stranger, she cried: "Woe, don't you recognize the man who is helping you? I love technology, so we’re talking about robots today, but not in the way you might expect. A lot of conversations about robots have to do with whether or not a robot or machine could ever develop genuine feelings or emotions. But today we’re going to be thinking about our own emotions and feelings toward robots, particularly empathy. Can we feel empathy toward robots? And if so, why? Allow me to introduce you to Kate Darling. She is a super cool researcher who is looking into this very question. I’m going to play you a little bit from the beginning of her TED talk, where she explains how she got into this line of research. The link to the full presentation is in the show notes. OK, here comes Kate: Kate Darling: “There was a day, about 10 years ago, when I asked a friend to hold a baby dinosaur robot upside down. It was this toy called a Pleo that I had ordered, and I was really excited about it because I’ve always loved robots. And this one has really cool technical features. It had motors and touch sensors and it had an infrared camera. And one of the things it had was a tilt sensor, so it knew what direction it was facing. And when you held it upside down, it would start to cry. And I thought this was super cool, so I was showing it off to my friend, and I said, “Oh, hold it up by the tail. See what it does.” So we’re watching the theatrics of this robot struggle and cry out. And after a few seconds, it starts to bother me a little, and I said, “OK, that’s enough now. Let’s put him back down.” And then I pet the robot to make it stop crying. And that was kind of a weird experience for me. For one thing, I wasn’t the most maternal person at the time. (CORRECT) We enjoyed from the pleasant autumn weather. (INCORRECT) 🔶نکتۀ دیگه اینکه اگر بخواییم بعد از enjoy از یه فعل استفاده کنیم، اون فعل باید با ing بیاد. مثال: We enjoyed walking in the pleasant autumn weather. 🔶ساختار enjoy oneself هم زیاد استفاده می‌شه، که یعنی «اوقات خوشی داشتن». مثال: He was just enjoying himself at the club. 🔶نکتۀ آخر هم اینکه enjoy یه فعل transitive یا همون متعدیه (یا همون گذرا به مفعول)؛ یعنی تقریباً همیشه به مفعول نیاز داره. توی همۀ مثالای بالا هم می‌بینین که این فعل با مفعول استفاده شده. حالا یه مدل هست که enjoy به حالت امری، بدون هیچ فاعل و مفعولی و به‌تنهایی استفاده می‌شه و معنیش هم می‌شه یه چیزی تو مایه‌های «لذتش رو ببر»: Here’s our new post on the verb “enjoy”.
