📣 Phone Call Between Foreign Ministers of the Three European Countries, EU Foreign Policy Chief, and Araghchi
🔸 The foreign ministers of the three European countries and the European Union’s foreign policy chief held a phone call with Iran’s foreign minister a few hours ago, during which they informed him of their intention to formally notify the UN Security Council regarding the initiation of the so-called dispute resolution mechanism in the JCPOA. At the same time, they emphasized their readiness to find a diplomatic solution within the next 30 days in order to resolve the issues and prevent the reimposition of UN Security Council sanctions.
🔸 Iran’s foreign minister described the move by the three European countries as unjustified, illegal, and lacking any legal basis. He recalled Iran’s responsible performance and goodwill in adhering to diplomacy to resolve nuclear-related issues, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran will respond appropriately to this unlawful and unjustified action by the three European countries in order to protect and safeguard its national rights and interests.

📣 The United States Welcomes European Troika’s Move Against Iran
🔸 U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a statement, welcomed the letter by the three European countries initiating the process of reimposing sanctions against Iran.
🔸 Rubio said that the United States “will work with the European Troika and other members of the United Nations Security Council to successfully complete the process of restoring international sanctions and restrictions against Iran.”
🔸 The U.S. Secretary of State further claimed that Washington is “ready for direct talks with Iran” on nuclear issues.
🔸 The U.S. government had previously stated that it seeks Iran’s “complete and unconditional surrender” in any negotiations with the country.
🔸 In another part of his statement, Rubio alleged: “The snapback mechanism not only has no contradiction with our eager readiness for diplomacy but rather strengthens it.”

📣 Foad Izadi: The Snapback Mechanism Has a Psychological and Propaganda Aspect
🔸 International affairs analyst: The activation of the snapback mechanism by European countries is illegal and a U.S. conspiracy, which is part of the West’s psychological operations aimed at influencing Iranian public opinion.
🔸 The United States withdrew from the JCPOA, and Europe also failed to fulfill its commitments under the deal; therefore, from a legal standpoint, they had no authority to reinstate sanctions.
🔸 The United Nations has not imposed any direct sanctions on Iran’s oil or financial transactions. The current sanctions are mainly from the United States and some European countries.
🔸 The UN’s domain of involvement is primarily related to nuclear and military issues, and the reimposition of sanctions through the snapback mechanism is largely psychological and propagandistic in nature.
🔸 China and Russia, since they still remain in the JCPOA and have not violated their commitments, oppose the activation of the snapback mechanism.

📣 Foreign Policy Analysis: Europe has played its last card against Iran, but the return of these sanctions is largely symbolic and unlikely to change Iran’s position
Foreign Policy magazine, expressing doubt over the success of triggering the snapback mechanism, wrote:
🔸 The return of UN Security Council sanctions is mostly symbolic and cannot target Iran’s economy the way U.S. sanctions do. Although Russia and China cannot prevent the reimposition of these sanctions, they can disrupt their implementation.
🔸 The situation reached this point because Iran did not agree to Europe’s proposal last week. Under that proposal, in exchange for a six-month suspension of the return of sanctions, Iran would have had to grant IAEA inspectors unlimited access, disclose the location of its 400 kilograms of enriched uranium, and resume negotiations with the United States.
🔸 However, Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran have reduced Tehran’s willingness to engage in such negotiations or grant access to IAEA inspectors. Nevertheless, the three European countries hope that by using their final pressure card and activating the snapback mechanism, they might change Iran’s position — though this appears unlikely.
